Dunn Plowman Brewery

Dunn Plowman Brewery, Unit 1A, Arrow Court Industrial Estate, Hergest Road, Kington, Herefordshire, HR5 3ER

Tel (01544) 231993; Website not yet available

Steve and Gay Dunn started brewing in 1987 at the Royal George at Lingen (this was never listed in the Good Beer Guide) and moved to the Black Horse in Leominster in May 1992. As well as supplying the Black Horse, the brewery began to supply other pubs locally. Paul Harris joined Steve in 1993 and the brewery moved to the rear of the Queens Head in Kington (named Solstice Brewery because the decision was made on 21st December). It continued to supply the Black Horse as well as the Queens. The partnership was short-lived (see Marches), and Steve continued to brew intermittently whilst also brewing at the Three Tuns in Bishops Castle. Reverting to the name Dunn Plowman, production gradually built up to the full capacity of the plant. New capacity was secured in 2002 by taking over the SP Sporting Ales Brewery and moving its equipment to a new site at Hergest, near Kington, together with the equipment from the Queens Head. Some of the SP range was integrated into the Dunn Plowman portfolio but by the end of 2004 the last of these will have been withdrawn.

The brewery now supplies the Olde Tavern in Kington, its brewery tap and Herefordshire's Pub of the Year 2004, the Black Horse in Leominster and 30 other outlets in a 50 mile radius.

Shire Horse Ale (5.5%) and Crooked Furrow (6.5%) are brewed winter only.
